Spring concert 2011

Performances of the  Faure Requiem and Stainer’s Crucifixion were given on successive nights in Pitlochry Church of Scotland and St Ninian’s Perth.

April 2011 Concerts at Pitlochry Church of Scotland and St Ninian’s Perth

The beginning of Holy Week was the perfect time for this concert of Faure Requiem and Stainer’s Crucifixion.  The choral was joined by the choir of St Ninian’s for the Perth concert, and  we were lucky enough to have Jonathan Cooke and Dominic Barberi as soloists. Eleanor Kemp from St Ninian’s sang  the Pie Jesu. The choir had enjoyed rehearsing these pieces with their glorious harmonies and the performances crackled with energy.

hristmas concert at Blair Castle December 2010

After an anxious few weeks as poor weather closed roads, disrupted rehearsals and caused

many events to be cancelled, we arrived at the concert date after a thaw had made travel easier. An audience of over 200 assembled and settled into the ballroom to enjoy the concert.

The first piece was Rutter’s Magnificat, and the choir was joined by Anne Lewis singing the soprano solos. Many in the audience report being moved almost to tears by her beautiful voice floating above the rich harmonies of the work.

In the second part, lubricated by mulled wine and full of mince pies, the audience were invited to join some of the carols and they joined in lustily.  A children’s choir from local schools also sang and Martyn James read a selection of pieces relating to the carols to general enjoyment.

Christmas Concert at
 Blair Atholl December 2009

Members of the choral are joined by the Cathedral Choir for the performance in St Ninian’s.
A capacity audience enjoyed our concert at Blair Castle in December 2011. Our programme began with Britten’s St Nicolas, and we were joined by soloist Jonathan Cooke,  girls from Breadalbane Academy and boys from Craigclowan school . With a small orchestra as well, the platform was crowded with performers. After wine and mince pies during the interval , the choir sang a selection of carols interspersed with readings by Dougal Lee. It was a thoroughly enjoyable vening, and the girls choir won particular praise for their accomplished performance.
